Job Stress Index

Many Swiss employees feel stressed, as regular monitoring shows. This not only harms them, but also the economy.

Researchers involved at the University of Bern: Achim Elfering, Sibylle Galliker, Ivana Igic, Norbert Semmer.

Too much pressure, too little support: people who experience more stress at work than they have resources available become exhausted, less motivated and sick more often. Many continue to work despite complaints - or are absent altogether. The consequences not only affect individuals, but also companies, whose productivity decreases. A better balance in the workplace could improve health and motivation - and save the Swiss economy billions in losses. Health Promotion Switzerland, together with the University of Bern and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW, collects figures on this every two years in the so-called Job Stress Index. Co-author Achim Elfering takes a closer look at the topic in an interview.
